Community Golf Instructor Course - Information

Why has the course been developed…

The new Community Golf Instructor training programme has been set up to create a dedicated new workforce to help grow the game in communities across the British Isles, with the focus of getting golf into schools, communities and beginner activity into golf clubs.

Once trained, Instructors will be able to lead beginner and introductory activity independently, working in a paid or voluntary capacity, without it affecting their ‘amateur status’ as a golfer.

This programme has been designed in collaboration with all Home Nation Associations (Scottish Golf, Wales Golf, Golf Ireland & England Golf), the Golf Foundation, along with support from the PGA.

The new programme also has the full backing, financial support and the ongoing guidance from The R&A.

About the training…

The training course is a mix of online and face-to-face learning, focusing on developing Community Golf Instructors who take a person-centred approach and can create a relaxed, sociable environment for golf activity.

Delegates will also need to undertake or have Police Check through their NGB and attend an approved Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course.

The course specifics are:
  • Four eLearning modules which will take approximately 2 hours.
  • Two tutor led online classroom sessions, both 90 minutes each.
  • An in-person session which will be a full day.

What else is included…

Delegates will also receive:

- A Support Pack: which includes games and activities, and links to filmed sessions and tutor support.

- A Digital Pack: containing templates that you may need in the role and information about initiatives and further support.

- Access to an online peer community for instructors.

Is this course for you?

Experience in golf is not essential to undertake the course. What is important is that you are passionate about the benefits of sport and are willing to develop the skills to create a welcoming and inclusive environment and deliver fun, engaging games and activities.

We would like people to attend this course who can help take golf to new audiences to help diversify the game.

The training programme is designed to provide a supportive framework to help you develop the skills and confidence to deliver engaging group golf sessions independently.

We have an Activator Workshop for people who will be supporting sessions, rather than leading sessions.

You must be 18 years or above to attend the course.
